It’s Time to Be Deliberate about Your Life

Have you ever wondered why it seems like there is always that one thing you want to do, that dream you hope to achieve, that huge step you want to take, and, despite your honest desires, it seems unattainable? Maybe you feel like there never seems to be a ‘right time’ to get those things done. Or do you suppose just by desiring or wishing for them, they will become your reality? The truth is that without deliberate action, you can no more move in the direction of your goals than you can drive a car just by putting the key in the ignition.

By being deliberate, or intentional, you will be taking definite steps in the direction of your dreams. This requires a good dose of discipline and checks. I have always been an advocate of feedback; whether they are coming from external sources or from within. Feedback helps us measure our progress, serves as life guardrails, and should be welcomed in our quest to achieve our dreams. Here are some broad aspects of life where you can be more deliberate about your growth.

Your Profession or Career

By being deliberate in your chosen business, career, job, or academics, you are deciding to take responsibility for the outcomes in those areas of your life and not ‘wing it’ any longer.

You should not be the owner of a business that never records growth and profit. You should not be an employee who is not recording major achievements on the job or is not getting any promotion after decades of working. Your professional journey should be littered with tales of witty inventions and innovative ideas that propelled you in the direction of success.

Contrary to what some people think, innovation is not the sole preserve of a special sect of people with IQ above 140. Ideas come to those who seek them. You should be the one who always thinks of something new and acts on it intentionally.

While desire is good, the corresponding action is what ultimately leads to success. Many times, you will discover that saying that you will do this or that makes you feel like you are doing it when in fact, you are not! Save yourself from excuses by taking definite and deliberate steps daily towards your goals.

Your Health and Physical Fitness

No man can function optimally who does not take care of his physical wellbeing. We have often heard it said that health is wealth. That is a truism that bears repeating. A healthy man is a wealthy man. Take time to eat healthy meals and include fruits and vegetables in your diet. A truly productive man is one who understands the value of a healthy diet and good exercise. Have you ever had to work on an empty stomach for long hours? You would find that you easily get distracted or tired and are more likely to make mistakes or miss things that would normally not escape your scrutiny.

When you are intentional about definite aspects of your life, you find out that only positive improvements appear.

So be intentional!
