God is almost always on the side of the authority. He sides with them and punishes their dissenters, not minding their own wrongs, except where he did not institute such leaders.

There are several instances in the Bible where the leader was in the wrong, yet God still sided with them against their adversaries. My classic example when discussing this is the public criticism of Moses by Miriam and Aaron for marrying a heathen, an Ethiopian woman. Note, Moses was very, very wrong.

Aside from that, the people who castigated him were his own older siblings (Miriam was older than Moses by 14 years, and Aaron by 3 years), who had every right to talk to him. Yet, when God would answer them in return for criticizing Moses, His servant, His response was with a plague.

Hmmmnnn… as the Yorubas would say, “Ọ̀rọ̀ OLÚWA ẹ̀ẹ̀dẹ” [The disposition of God can be delicate].
